An American Allspel List

This is an effort to help American nyckelharpa players have some common repertoire. When we meet, it would be nice if we had some tunes in common, so we could play them together. At events, it's very common to have an Allspel, literally translated as All Play, where everyone is invited up on stage (or to the center of the hall) to play some tunes together. The tunes are taken from the common repertoire.

We published a proposed list of allspel tunes in the May 1999 issue of Nyckel Notes. Based on the responses Sheila received, here is the revised allspel tune list.

Also, don't miss the discussion on the limitations of written music. Written music is not perfect, but hopefully between the written music and the sound files you can learn the tunes.

GIF: Every browser can display GIFs, but the print quality is low.

PDF: Get Acrobat Reader. (free!)

MP3: Get RealPlayer to play, and RealProducer to record (both free!)

MIDI: Get Notation Player (free!)
though MIDI files usually sound stilted and without soul.

The MP3s aren't perfect, but hopefully they will give you an idea of the way the tune goes.
