Nyckelharpa Loaner Program

We are thrilled to be launching the Bart Brashers Memorial Nyckelharpa Loaner Program, named in honor of ANA co-founder Bart Brashers.

The intent of this program is to promote and encourage study of the nyckelharpa by loaning instruments to worthy students. Loan recipients must be (or become) ANA members, and they are required as a condition of the loan to take regularly scheduled lessons with a nyckelharpa teacher, either in person or via teleconference. The loan period is for six months; at this time, the program is available only to mainland US residents.

You’ll want to familiarize yourself with the Application Instructions before you begin, as the process entails several steps.

About the Loaner Instruments

Currently, the ANA has 2 instruments available for the loaner program. One is a standard 3-row nyckelharpa built by Enar Magnusson. The second is a 3/4 size nyckelharpa built by Olle Plahn. We are particularly excited to be able to offer a nyckelharpa to the younger generation, as Bart was passionate about encouraging kids with music.

The ANA is seeking additional instruments for the program. If you have one you’d like to sell or donate, please reach out through the contact form.

Support the Program

To run the loaner program, instruments have to be acquired, insured, and regularly maintained. The $100 fee for recipients goes towards this, but operational costs will dictate what we are able to offer each year. If you’re interested in being on the loaner committee, donating funds, or can help with instrument repairs, please let us know!
